Jim Corbett National Park is divided into several tourism zones, and each one offers a genuinely different safari experience. Your choice of gate affects everything from the type of forest you drive through to your odds of seeing tigers.
Dhikala — The Classic
Dhikala is the oldest and largest zone, famous for its grasslands along the Ramganga river. It offers the best overall chances of tiger and elephant sightings, and the Dhikala FRH (forest rest house) inside the park is one of India's most iconic stays. Bookings here need to be made well in advance — permits sell out months ahead in peak season.
Bijrani — Tigers on a Budget of Time
Bijrani is the most popular zone for day-trippers. It borders the tourist belt of Dhikuli, which is why resorts in Dhikuli are such a favourite for safari travellers. The mixed forest and grasslands make it a reliable choice for leopard and tiger sightings, and it is easy to combine a morning jeep with an afternoon rest.
Jhirna & Dhela — Open All Year
Jhirna and Dhela are the only zones open during the monsoon months (July to September) when most of the park shuts down. Dhela is the newest zone and often under-subscribed, which means a quieter, more peaceful safari with good chances of elephants and sloth bears.
